Carl H. Moore was a weekend golfer and did not like the long lines for tee off, so he decided to purchase the old Milay Campground at public auction in 1975. Carl had worked construction for 26 years and had no idea what it took to create a golf course. At the time of the purchase Carl and his wife Barbara had 4 children still living at home. With the help of his children and other employees he started his dream of building a golf course. While working on the front nine they cleaned up the campground and opened for business that summer.
In 1976 after many hours and long days the front nine which was 2609 yards, par 36, opened for business. In 1987 the back nine opened which added an additional 1447 yards to the course, bringing the total yardage to 4056, par 68.
Carl passed away in September 1989 and his son Paul took over course management. Every year in September the Carl H. Moore Memorial Golf Tournament is held in his honor to benefit the Pike Fire Department.
Over the years following Carl's death the course has seen many more expansions by Paul and his crew. In 1992 four newly expanded holes were opened - holes 11, 12, 13 and 14 were lengthened and included more hazards. In 2002 additional land was acquired and holes 16, 17 and 18 were expanded which included a two acre pond. The back nine is currently 2227 yards - par 35.
In 2009 hole 10 is currently under re-construction from 140 yards to 202 yards - tenative date to open is June 2010.
